1750. Carta de Alfonso Cabezas, tejero y soldado, para su esposa Francisca de Jorge, criada y costurera.

Author(s) Alfonso Cabezas
Addressee(s) Francisca de Jorge
In English

Letter from Alfonso Cabezas, a tile maker and soldier, to his wife Francisca de Jorge, a maid and seamstress.

The author tells his wife, Francisca de Jorge, that he is waiting to be assigned to the Service-Disabled Company and asks her why she did not answer to his previous letters.

The defendant of this process was Francisca de Jorge, maid and seamstress. In 1752 she was accused of the crime of bigamy by the Inquisition of Toledo for having married twice: firstly, with Alfonso Cabezas in Torrejón de Ardoz (Madrid), around 1729, and then with Fernando Alonso, also known as Patas, in 1748. The letter sent by Alfonso Cabezas to his wife was handed over to the Holy Office by a witness, to whom it had been entrusted in order to give it to de addressee. The process is incomplete, so it is impossible to know if the defendant was eventually condemned and which was the sentence.
