Letter from Francisco Romo to Manuel López, a cavalry captain.

The author writes Manuel López to tell him that he has found him a lawyer who will help him with his case. He also tells him not to be angry with him, because he is doing everything he can.

The General Police Administration was closely monitoring the activities of foreign citizens residing in Portugal, also controlling their communications, in collaboration with the superintendent of the Posts. This letter is part of this intercepted correspondence from those Spanish military and intellectuals who, fleeing the absolutist Spain, had taken refuge in Portugal and were suspected of harbouring liberal ideas and of plotting to overthrow Fernando VII and establish a constitutional regime.

Querido mio: el viernes me aviste con el avogado, y segun me dijo, se encarga gustoso en la defensa de tu negocio, no solamte por si mismo, sino valiendose de sus amigos como son Perez el P M. Alonso, ó el cura del Avelles, para que con sus luces y conocimto puedan ilustrarle, y con su influjo dar todo el impulso posible á tu cosa; vajo de este seguro, tu puedes jirar del modo que te parezca mas faborable:
